After the sudden death of his wife, Gonzalo, a middle-aged immigrant and successful business owner—is swallowed by grief. He retreats inward, finding himself in a hospital’s behavioral health unit, a place where memory and imagination take flight. There, he spends his days speaking to her urn and drifting into dreams, recollections, and fairy tales in search of connection.

His adult son, caught between his own artistic ambitions and the weight of the family business, comes to visit, hoping to bring his father home—and to guide him toward healing.

As fantasy and reality weave together, Healing Mined unfolds as a lyrical journey through memory, myth, and emotional discovery. Told through storytelling, music, and movement, the play explores grief, caregiving, and the courage to ask for help.

Meet the creative forces shaping Healing Mined

playwright - producer

james manuel meneses

is a playwright and theater producer committed to creating bold, original work that amplifies underrepresented voices and explores the complexities of human experience. In April 2025, his play HEALING MINED premiered at Theaterlab in New York City. He is a co-producer of Michael McKeever’s THE CODE, starring Olivier Award winner Tracie Bennett. Previously, James wrote the book and produced an industry reading of HERE IS GONE, a sci-fi jukebox musical featuring music by the Goo Goo Dolls. His plays DREAM FRAGMENTATION and WHILE YOU WAIT were produced by the Greenhouse Ensemble and staged at the Bernie Wohl Center and Theater 97, respectively. James is a proud member of the Dramatists Guild, a lyricist with the Musical Theatre Writing Collective, and a former member of Next Stage, a producing mentorship program led by Tony Award–winning producer Ken Davenport. is a director, choreographer, and arts educator with an emphasis in artistry that centers consent, agency, and humanity. She has worked as an Assistant Director in NYC and regionally: with Warren Carlyle on HARMONY on Broadway, and with Marcia Milgrom Dodge on ON YOUR FEET (Riverside Theatre) and WAITRESS (Olney Theatre). Recent work includes MERE WATERS (SheNYC, Winner of Best Script and Best Featured Actor, World Premiere Director-Choreographer), GODDESS OF THE HUNT (Workshop Director, Fresh Fruit Festival), 1776 (Stagedoor Manor, Choreographer). natalie brice

is a critically-acclaimed composer. She composed WHITE ROSE: THE MUSICAL (Off Broadway 2024, London 2025). She has served as a piano accompanist (ASHER CHILD, musical theatre improv in LA), and as a music director (HELL ON EARTH, HAPPILY EVEN AFTER). She is the author of the pop song Downtown (premiered at Kulak's Woodshed 2024). Her primary keyboard styles for bands are rock and blues. www.nataliebricemusic.com

In EEUU he also worked in films and tv series such as THE BLACKLIST , THE EQUALIZER and FBI: MOST WANTED. In Fall of 2025 he will perform in KYOTO at Lincoln Center Theater. In Spain he co-leaded the movie ”Las Tierras Altas" ("The High Lands") and has been a member ofthe National Classical Theater Company.

Amilia Shaw is an award-winning actress, singer, and dancer based in New York City. She was recently honored with Best Supporting Actor in a Play at the 2024 SheNYC Festival for her portrayal of “The Woman” in Mere Waters. Her theatrical credits include:

Noah Turner - Pianist & Music Supervisor

Noah Turner is a New York-based pianist, conductor, music director, and arranger. Recently he has worked as Music Director for Blue Hill Troupe's Cinderella, Associate Music Director on the International Tour of The Sound of Music in Manila, the Music Assistant on Joy the Musical (with Music Supervisor Andy Einhorn), and Music Director/Conductor of the Jersey Boys 2nd National Tour. He actively works as a music director at cabaret venues throughout the city such as 54 Below and Green Room 42. Noah received his Master’s degree in Collaborative Piano from NYU Steinhardt, and has a Bachelor’s degree in Composition from SUNY Fredonia.
